Policy Implications of Police-Probation/Parole Partnerships: A Review of the Empirical Literature

Over the past decade, aligning with the tenets of community policing and community corrections, there has been a growing interest in police-probation/parole partnerships. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) continue to offer various grants aiming to promote and refine the partnership process. This paper reviews the literature on police-probation/parole partnerships. Specifically, the authors summarize the strength of the partnerships while providing recommendations to mediate any unintended negative effects.
