Using Community Policing to Counter Violent Extremism: 5 Key Principles for Law Enforcement

In coordination with the federal strategy, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), with support from the U .S . Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), created the Role of Community Policing in homeland Security and Countering Violent Extremism project. The goal of this project is to increase the capacity of law enforcement nationwide to develop problem solving strategies to identify, prevent, and eliminate terrorist ideologies and behaviors .This guide was developed as part of the project to serve as a resource for law enforcement organizations considering, planning, and employing community policing practices tailored to countering violent extremism in their communities.
