PSP Case Study: Collaborating to Reduce Violent Crime in Compton, California

In September 2015, Compton was selected to be part of the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ’s) National Public Safety Partnership (PSP). In order to strategically focus efforts in Compton, in February 2017, the local and federal partner agencies developed a PSP Compton Strategic Plan, focusing on reducing crime to the lowest levels, increasing community collaboration, and promoting locally driven economic growth in Compton. Three violence reduction focus areas were identified: gang violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking. In order to meet the goals of the strategic plan, Compton leveraged federal and local partnerships fostered through PSP participation.
